About
Begun in July of 2011, acablog.net reviews a cappella-related blogs.
Our reviewing philosophy is to succinctly report the core essence of a blog. We proceed from an underlying assumption that most of our readers seek blogs that provide entertainment, insight, utility, news or honest expression.
We begin by reading all, or almost all, publicly available posts on the blog at the time of its review. We then aim to distill these to reveal their common properties. Our aim is to allow the reader who knows her own interests to quickly determine whether a given blog is worth following.
For instance, we do not suggest that following the blog of a given a cappella group is good or bad based merely on the quality of the group's performance or recordings. Instead, we will tell readers whether the band's blog reads more like lists of concert dates, fluff pieces about how lovely everyone and everything is, philosophy, general musings or something else.
We take into account personal knowledge of the bloggers and organizations, even if that information is not readily available to a first-time reader of the blog in question. The thoughts of a writer who has already earned the respect of the community for her past achievements may carry a different weight than those of an unknown entity. We personally know and have worked with a great many of the authors and entities involved in the sites mentioned here. We focus on the blog first and the entity second. We strongly support SingStrong for its achievements and charitable focus and so we aim to bring slightly more attention to this event in our writing where we think such a mention is applicable and appropriate. Cross-blogging is common. We have written and still occasionally contribute to many blogs including SingStrong, CASA, Minky's Blog, Blue Jupiter and for Acappella101. We review the quality of a blog overall, rather than merely its primary blogger or owner. Sufficiently frequent guest-blogging may alter a blog's overall quality.
The primary focus of acablog.net is limited to a cappella-related blogs. In this area we hope to be highly inclusive. Some blogs fall into a grey area, such as those discussing vocal technique generally, or choral happenings. Our scope is wide enough to encompass some such blogs based on their quality and applicability. However, we will make efforts not to unduly dilute the focus of the site with blogs that only peripherally address a cappella issues.
Blogs may be submitted to us for review by the blogger or the public, or we may review blogs, sua sponte.
Our policy at this time is to review all blogs at least once per year (approximately) and to adjust reviews over time should the core quality of the content differ materially from the existing review. To that end, we welcome contact from bloggers who feel that our summaries may have become inaccurate or dated. We ask both bloggers and fans to point us toward whatever material they feel is pertinent. We strive to provide accurate information, but mistakes do sometimes happen and for this, we apologize. We pledge to take swift action to correct any inadvertent errors of which we are made aware or to address any issues relating to copyright, trademark or other intellectual property. Please use our contact form to reach us and be sure to follow any instructions designed prevent spam or automated contact.
